About Redwood City
Redwood City is rich in history and local lore. From its earliest inhabitation by the Ohlone people, to its tradition as a port for lumber and other goods, and to its place as the county seat, the community respects the past as it builds for the future.
Redwood City is located in the Bay Area 25 miles south of San Francisco, and about 27 miles north of San Jose. It is approximately 19 square miles in land area with a mean elevation of 15 feet above sea level. The community combines residential, industrial, and commercial elements in a largely urban environment.
Getting to Downtown Redwood City is a snap! It has easy freeway access, and is also well connected to regional transit systems. The City is located in San Mateo County on the center of the San Francisco Peninsula. Combined with the reputation as the business and industrial center of the Peninsula, Redwood City is becoming an entertainment destination as well. Theater, music, dance, cultural arts, and more make Redwood City an inviting community for the entire region, and beyond. With a convenient location roughly between Highways 101 and 280, the assortment of hotels and motels, our many cultural activities and entertainment, and a variety of businesses both large and small, visitors always come back to Redwood City.
